Philips launches new health innovations to enable equitable access to care at Africa Health ExCon 2023

  • Africa’s healthcare providers have consistently called for innovations to help expand equitable access to care.
  • To address Africa’s growing healthcare demands, Philips is launching two new health innovations at Africa Health Excon 2023 – enabling caregivers to provide the right care, at the right time, in the right place – all while improving health outcomes.
  • In addition, Philips highlights how strategic partnerships can enable healthcare teams to extend care capacity and increase clinical confidence and collaboration while remaining agile and operationally efficient.

Cairo, Egypt Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA), a global leader in health technology, is launching two new health innovations at the second Africa Health ExCon taking place at the Egypt International Convention Centre from 7 – 9 June 2023. Enhanced by Philips’ commitment to purposeful partnerships, the flexible, smart, and sustainable solutions for mobile surgery and mobile MRI, are focused on increasing access to equitable care across the continent.

With evolving challenges and relentless pressure on resources, healthcare in Africa is approaching a tipping point at which radical change must come. The only way to address Africa’s most prominent health challenges is by improving the efficacy of care – first through collaboration with various stakeholders to make it possible to strengthen healthcare systems, and secondly through fit-for-purpose digital and technological innovation that keeps patient care at its core.

It is against this backdrop that we are bringing world-class clinical and operational expertise to Africa and are expediting much-needed healthcare transformation that will deliver real results and tangible impact across the entire care continuum to improve millions of lives in the continent.”

Among Philips’ solutions that will be showcased at this year’s Africa Health ExCon, Philips is championing the power of portability with a portfolio of compact, mobile, and adaptable solutions that enable an efficient, patient-centered ecosystem where partners can deliver the right care, at the right time, in the right place:

Bringing diagnostic imaging to remote and underserved areas

Philips has launched its first Mobile MRI truck in Egypt. Inaugurated during the ongoing Africa Health ExCon, the state-of-the-art Mobile MRI Truck combines advanced technology, mobility, and patient-centric features to bring diagnostic imaging to underserved, remote, and difficult-to-access areas, supporting timely temporary imaging needs - for example, as part of a community outreach campaign, or disaster response efforts.

The MRI Truck was developed to support the Egyptian Government’s vision to extend access to quality healthcare; it will empower healthcare providers to realize better patient outcomes by bringing diagnostic imaging to areas where traditional MRI machines may not be readily available - enabling accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.

Bringing minimally invasive surgery to more patients with the Zenition 10

Philips also launched a new addition to its Zenition mobile C-arm series, Zenition 10 at the Africa ExCon, expanding patient access to routine surgical care and minimally invasive procedures.

The use of a C-arm offers several benefits in surgery settings. First and foremost, its images help surgeons navigate with precision as they can see the exact location of the surgical instruments, implants, or other devices they’re using, ensuring accurate procedures and reducing the risk of complications. It also allows them to confirm the successful completion of the procedure by verifying results on the spot.

Powered by Philips’ state-of-the-art flat panel detector technology, the Zenition 10 delivers distortion-free images with superb resolution and dose efficiency for performing a wide variety of surgical procedures including orthopedic, trauma, spine, pain management, peripheral vascular, abdominal, urology, and general surgical procedures.

The new Zenition 10’s compact design supports fast transport, fast set-up, and fast high-quality imaging, supporting quick decision-making and mitigating staff shortages by delivering the speed and efficiency needed to deal with high patient throughput - enabling surgeons to treat more patients at a lower cost.

Realizing lifetime value with technology optimization

This year, Philips debuts its Philips Optimization Zone at Africa Health Excon 2023, which offers an exclusive opportunity to engage with its specialist service & solutions team on how to maximize the return on healthcare investments. A full team of experts is available to meet and engage with stakeholders to discuss how to get the most out of technology over the lifecycle of the solutions. Whether this calls for managed services, expert consultancy, education, or another type of partnership – Philips is using ExCon to help healthcare providers in the region make confident investment decisions for their healthcare needs.

Other innovations include Philips SmartSpeed which can increase MRI department productivity and reduce the cost per exam. The solution enhances diagnostic confidence by delivering outstanding image quality so that radiologists can feel confident when providing information to the referring physician.

As Philips, we believe in collaborating with like-minded stakeholders to make life better. Our current partnerships have enabled providers to treat hundreds more patients per year – making quality healthcare more accessible [1], we’re excited to introduce these life-changing innovations to our partners in Africa.”
